Integrating Formative into Blackbaud

Following these video instructions will help you integrate the Formative assessment tool with Blackbaud. Doing this guarantees a smooth login process for you and your students. It also adds the convenience of grades passing back into your Blackbaud gradebook. The best practices guide is attached to this page.

Written instructions:

1. Create your Formative but do not assign it to any classes yet
2. Create a new assignment in Blackbaud
   1. Make sure you add an assignment and not an assessment… don’t worry this is intentional
3. Fill out the assignment screen as normal
4. When you get to the Learning tool drop-down, select Formative
5. Go back to the Formative you created and copy and paste the link in the address bar to the Launch URL box in Blackbaud
   • This is where the linking process happens. Doing this will make sure you can pass your grades back.
6. Go ahead and click on your new assignment in Blackbaud
7. Press Launch
   • Students should also press the same Launch button in their Blackbaud. This means they no longer need to go to Formative and manually login to launch the assessment.
8. In Formative, click on the Assign button at the top
9. Select the classes you would like to assign the Formative to
10. Adjust your assignment settings according to the best practices document
11. Press Assign
12. Once your students have completed the assessment and you have finished grading, you can click on the menu in the top right and select grade pass back
13. Select Pass back grades to BlackbaudK12 --- not Google
    • If you do not see BlackbaudK12, that means you did not click the Launch button in Blackbaud. We recommend starting your grading process from the Launch button. If you do not do this, BlackbaudK12 will not be an option to show up for grade pass back and you will have to manually enter your grades.
14. Select the classes and students you would like to send grades for
15. Press Send
    • If successful, everyone’s names will turn green --- that is the confirmation
